Walk Event - The Test Way

Dates:   Sat/Sun  29/30 Sep + 13/14 Oct
Status:  REGISTRATION OPEN

The Test Way is a 44-mile long-distance walking route that will take you from its dramatic start, high on the chalk downs at Inkpen, to follow much of the course of the River Test to Eling where its tidal waters flow into Southampton Water. Without doubt, the Test is one of Hampshire’s finest chalk streams, world famous for its superb trout fishing.

Would you like to walk the Test Way over four days, i.e. two weekends, with about 11 miles each day (linear) ? We'll do some car shuttling to sort out the logistics! The above dates are Plan A, but the weekend of 27/28 October (when the clocks change) is a possible stand-by.

Please let me know if you would like to walk the full route by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. asap.  Let me know your availability on the two weekends listed but also on the 27/28 October too.   Walk Leader's decision on dates is final :)

P.S. Each of the sections can be walked as a standard group day walk if you don't want to commit to the whole route.

Trip Away - Wiltshire

When: 18th - 19th August
Status: CONFIRMED

The group is headed to Warminster for a two day walking weekend in Wiltshire.

From a base in Warminster, walks will be organised on the Saturday and Sunday.  This presents the option to stay overnight on Saturday (or longer) to enjoy both walks, although either may be done as an individual walk as we won't be too far away from home by car (or train).  Anticipated walks are Westbury White Horse and the Imber Perimeter Path (about 11 miles and 1500'), and Stourhead to Shearwater via Longleat Forest (about 11 miles and 1200').  Details will be posted in the week before and routes may change due to weather forecast etc.

If you'd like to come on this trip, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to register your interest so that you can be kept up to date on any developments and be notified of anyone looking to share accommodation or car travel.  When you register, please let me know if you consent to share your name, email, etc with other registrants to make this easier.

Otherwise, for anyone looking to stay over on Saturday night, you are free to book your own accommodation in the Warminster / Westbury area.

Trip Away - Lyme Regis, Dorset

When: 8th - 11th June
Status: FULL

* This trip is now fully subscribed *

The group is headed to Lyme Regis for a long weekend in June.  It's an opportunity to breathe some sea air, hunt for fossils, and enjoy a few miles of the south west coast path along the cliff tops and through the coastal woodland.

Led walks will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  These will be Seatown and Golden Cap, Seaton to Lyme Regis via the Undercliffs National Nature Reserve, and (on the homeward journey) Maiden Castle/Hardy's Monument. Full details of the walks will be posted in the usual way in the days before the trip (when the weather forecast can be taken into account). Walks will operate in the normal way.  Join the group walks or do your own thing!

In addition there will be a group meal (optional) at a local restaurant on the Saturday evening.

If you'd like to come on this trip, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to register your interest so that you can be kept up to date on any developments and be notified of anyone looking to share accommodation or car travel.

Otherwise all that's left is to book your own accommodation in the Lyme Regis area.  It doesn't have to be in Lyme Regis itself though that might be preferable for the range of pubs and restaurants. There are no big hotels in the area, but the range of smaller hotels, B&Bs, and caravan sites should offer affordable options.
